Learn about “Healthy Habitats & Homes: Orcas, Trees and People” this Friday in Greenlake

What do homes, orcas, trees and people have in common?  A lot!  Learn about the connection between homes, orcas, trees and healthy habitats this Friday in Greenlake when environmental experts Geog Donovan and Lynn Barre speak about the benefits of urban trees for orcas and humans at Healthy Habitats & Homes: Orcas, Trees, and People.

Barre was the Southern Resident Killer Whale Recovery Coordinator for NOAA Fisheries and the Seattle Branch Chief for the Protected Resources Division since they were listed under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) in 2005. She worked with NOAA for 25 years, implementing the ESA and Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) beginning her career at the headquarters office in Silver Spring, MD.

Dr. Donovan received his PhD in forest economics from Colorado State University in 2001. He then worked for 23 years as an economist for the USDA Forest Service in Alaska and Oregon. Currently he owns Ash and Elm Consulting, which is focused on making the business case for urban trees. His primary research focus has been quantifying the health benefits of urban trees.

The event takes place this Friday June 6th, 2025, 7-9 pm at 7400 Woodlawn, Seattle.  Doors open at 6:30 pm, with a suggested donation: $7.  For more details or to sign up, please visit RSVP www.tinyurl.com/seattleOrcaTalk.  For more information on the topic, you can visit https://www.orcaappeal.org/.
